closed; and so we try again.
[ Homura sits cross-legged, nursing a cup of tea. There is nothing to do around here, there never was. Idly, she notices the mess of glittering silver-grey. She sets her cup down by her side with a soft clatter and stands up to greet him, dusting her skirt as she does so. ]
You're back.
[ Matter of factly. She gently indicates the fresh brew, and returns to her plans. ]
You're back.
[ Matter of factly. She gently indicates the fresh brew, and returns to her plans. ]
i hate you
Kaworu's eyes are dull, saying nothing as he numbly finds his way to his regular spot by his collection of tallies, numbly plucks the chalk from the ground, numbly raises it to the wall, numbly marks one more failure. ]
i hate you too.
But the throat-clutching and the motions of losing your head? Well, that's new, but Homura knows the signs. Didn't Mami Tomoe suffer the same fate?
She thinks he'll be there for a little while, and perhaps is best left on his own. Nevertheless, the girl brings him a cup of tea and a warm blanket. A little bit of warmth never hurt anybody. ]
at least its mutual
He's not sure how much time passes, but it does, the shock subsiding into an emptiness that digs a cavern in his chest. Unexpectedly to even himself, he speaks. ]
I didn't ask him to kill me this time. [ Kaworu gives a small, pained laugh, head bowed into his hands. ] I didn't have to.
YOU COULD BE HAAAAAAAAAPPPY
Will you try again?
[ She already knows the answer. ]
AND I WOOOONT KNOOOOOOOW
Finally, Kaworu lifts his head and brings the cup of now-cold tea to his lips, eyes focused on the wall of endless scores before him. ]
He needs me to, doesn't he?
[ Homura understands it, but he wonders if she's faced her own death each and every time. ]
BUT YOU WEREN'T HAAAAAAAAAPPY
That's why they try, over and over and over again until something works out. Again and again, minuscule details and small alterations until something changes. Until something works out. It has to work out. ]
Take your time.
[ It's the only thing they have. ]
THE DAAAY I WATCHED YOU GO
I intend to, yes. How are your plans coming along?
[ It's odd, how he is becoming more honest with this troubled girl than he ever has been with Shinji. The angel doesn't like secrets, though he's omitted more truths than he has looped timelines. ]
AND SOMEHOW EVERYTHING I OWN
[ Or so she says, denying the messy scrawls on papers and the pile of them resembling a pile of leaves in the fall more so than a coherent plan. She has no plan whatsoever. ]
