Quietly, the small girl approaches the tall boy, trying to not make him see her. In any case, she could use her sight, just in case things go wrong.. When she got to close, she jumped on him, punching his back. »

[ he's only ever had very small, close celebrations between his adoptive siblings, composed of homemade cakes and and cards and gifts. that said, a birthday celebrated among more than just his share of immediate family took some adjusting to. ]

[ what kano's not yet adjusted to, however, are small children jumping him and making him topple to the ground. the hit doesn't particularly hurt since it's mary, her mass of hair obvious once the shock subsides, but that's no reason not to pretend she can't pack a punch. the laughing might be a dead giveaway, though. ]

Iyaa.. that hurts, Mary! You're supposed to give kisses and hugs on birthdays..! I never knew you were as cruel as Kido..!

[ Seto had wanted to ask Mary about the pastries she'd been planning to make for Kano's birthday, and maybe even offer a bit of help, even if he knew he wasn't the best at baking or cooking in general from... past experiences.

A flash of white scurried down the hall in the corner of his eye. Got you. Seto jogged lightly after the smaller female, stopping a few feet away when he saw her approach the shorter male. An amused smile crossed his lips, and he followed a few moments later, throwing a soft punch to Kano's shoulder as he made his way around to the other's side. ]

"Happy birthday, Kano!"

[ kido's hanging out by the corner of the room, watching the whole thing unfold and everyone shuffling in after a while. she has her hands in her pockets, listening to her ipod but keeping an eye out for the birthday boy- which she suspects should be coming around pretty soon. she had been pretty inconspicuous about the whole thing, so hopefully it comes off as a surprise (a good one though.)

she has a gift for him, of course, giftwrapped and a bow tacked on to the best of her abilities. she'll approach him as the party ends, and when everyone's dead tired from eating so much cake, but for now, she's happy to just watch. ]

[ he knows what the day is and he knows at least two other people in the hideout know, too- he doesn't know that there will suddenly be lights and streamers and confetti and shouting, pulling a genuine laugh out of him. this is definitely new, but he's not complaining.

even as the party's winding down ( much too soon, in his opinion ), Kano still brightens up at the sight of Kido making her way towards him, abandoning his umpteenth plate of cake in favor of her company. ]

Standing against the wall the entire time doesn't count as celebrating, you know. I hope you've got plans to make up for that.

[ kido rolls her eyes and gives kano a punch in the shoulder, knocking him around like a bowling pin before shuffling the gift towards him. the soft smile washes over her face when she watches kano's eyes light up like the fourth of july- and this time, she can tell it's genuine. you don't get to know someone for that long only to insult them (not even kano) by watching the expressions on his face. ]

To be honest, he would have liked to be here a couple of days ago, but he's gone through so much trouble to grab the gift that he wants to give that the redhead lost track of time- then there was the matter of tracking Gold down in the first place, which was a pain in the ass, but here he is, waiting for the trainer to come out of the Pokemon centre.

He tries to deny the fact that his face is lighting up as the champion leaves the building, but it doesn't work, and he only ends up more red.

[ It was simultaneously disappointing and expected that there was a delay in Silver's birthday wishes to the trainer, and if he hadn't been so busy on the given day, Gold definitely wouldn't have let him hear the end of it via Pokegear calls.

He's contemplating letting that go now though, at the sight of his rival outside the Centre, cheeks and hair clashing shades of red. Nearly tripping over his own feet to close the distance between them, he almost drops the box that's forced into his grip. ]

[ he's been wondering where souji is this entire time, no one giving him a straight answer even when it's already so late that they're preparing to serve cake. yosuke thinks it's a ridiculous amount of overkill to have ordered something that huge, but.. at least it's memorable? though he's starting to wonder who's idea this was in the first place. ]

[ maybe it's the way the cake opens up or the endless stream of cats jumping out of it followed by his best friend, but yosuke nearly loses balance in the absurdity of it all. ]

[ Well, it was another one of those instances where he didn't know what he was getting himself into until he was actually put into the situation-- quite literally, in Shintaro's case. Many persuasive forces had placed him into the cake he is sitting inside now, waiting for seemingly nothing. No one had told him when he could come out, and he was starting to get sweaty.

Who knew a hollow cake could be so warm? ]

[ here comes kuroha ( don't ask why he's here he just is) walking towards the cake because, well, he's hungry. he walks around the cake for a very quick survey of where the frosting ends and actual cake begins. it's around this time that he suspects the whole thing to be empty- human-sized.

[ as he says the last word, he pushes the entire cake over-- and then promptly slips out to avoid the cleaning duties that follow. can you believe they got a real cake?

[ this is possibly the largest cake the blond has ever seen. typically, he'd think it might pose a problem to actually finish the entire thing, but seeing as how they've acquired so many members, demolishing the cake actually seems like a plausible task.

that is, until he's here and then gone again in a heartbeat, and suddenly the cake is demolished and there is frosting and boyfriend all over Kano's boots. interesting! ]

[ He certainly had not foreseen the events to come-- with the toppling of the cake came the mess made of bread and frosting, as well as a fallen Shintaro at Kano's feet.

Body and clothes completely stained with frosting, the older male managed to push himself off of the ground with a short initial groan as quickly as he could, hoping to lessen the chagrin that he knew was coming. Unfortunately, it did not, and he was faced with a laughing Kano. Why had he agreed to such a ridiculous idea again? Did he really go to such a length because it was his boyfriend's birthday?

Yes, yes he did. Shintaro crossed his arms. ] "Well, happy birthday. I hope you enjoyed the surprise. [ It sure looked like he did. ]

[ minato's waiting for ryoji outside the sliding doors on the balcony, having slipped out having helping put up and take down the streamers. it's a nice night out, and he's leaned forward against the railing of the balcony, staring up at the empty sky- but more importantly, the moon.

his present is still somewhere on the couch, and he's been trying to find a good time to give it to his boyfriend, but the fact that this is about as close to a reunion as they're going to get makes it rather hard with everyone congratulation ryoji. so he's here, waiting for everyone to file out.

at least this party was a success. that's always worth something. ]

[ he had noticed the lack of messy blue hair in the room as they began stripping the space of decorations, plates and balloons still scattered throughout. when mitsuru's overseeing glance isn't on him, ryoji takes this moment to run up to where he knows the boy is, illuminated by the moonlight in a way that takes his breath away.

a beautiful boy paired with a beautiful sky, and he's already out the doors and beside minato, settling next to him softly. he's not sure what he wants to say, or how to say it, deciding that simplicity is good enough for now. ]
